Originally from Grand Rapids, MI and a proud Michigan alum, I've considered myself a runner for most of my life - from running in the local club races in elementary school to high school cross country & track to running my first half marathon in 2010 to now racing marathons across the country. Like many, my running career is full of ups and downs. I did little running in college and my beginning years in the working world, but I found it again after moving to DC 10 years ago. While I take my running seriously, especially when training for a goal race, I believe balance and having fun are key to sustaining oneself in the sport. Mixing in cross training and fitness classes, celebrating a race with brunch and beer, and bringing a spirit of flexibility to running helps keep it fresh and fun. I also run races across the country, with the goal of running a half or full marathon in all 50 states before I'm 50. It's a great way to combine two of my favorite things - racing and traveling.

After coaching runners as a side gig for several years, I decided I wanted to make running and fitness my full time job, so after 12 years of working in education (as a teacher, for nonprofits, at the district level), I look the leap and launched TW Training and Wellness. While there are many running coaches out there, I bring a unique perspective to the sport - I am also a certified personal trainer and a group fitness instructor, and I believe strength training is a key part of any race training program to help runners stay injury-free, as well as become stronger and faster. I also believe it's important to build a sense of community among my runners that participate in the group programs, regardless of running ability. Training for a race is hard work and having a supportive coach and team of other runners helps make the miles more manageable and fun. I bring the same mentality of fun and flexibility in my own training to my coaching.

What you can expect if you work with me?

Every running coach is different and it’s important that it’s a good fit for both of us, which is why an individual consultation is a part of the process for individual coaching and I’m always happy to schedule a call or answer questions via email for anyone considering the other coaching options. Some things you can expect if you work with me:

  • I take a comprehensive approach to training and coach with the mindset that training should incorporate cross training and strength training and you don’t need to run maximum mileage to be a better runner. My athletes run between 3-5 days/week, depending on their goals and circumstances (injury history, schedule, etc), with 1-2 days of cross training, and 1-2 active recovery/rest days.

  • I expect to communicate with you. If you’re in the group program, I want to see or hear from you, either in-person or virtually. If you’re being coached online, weekly communication via email, text, or the training platform, is expected. Coaching is a two-way street and I can’t coach you well if you’re not communicating with me.

  • I will hold you accountable. Missed workouts happen, but if I notice it’s happening on the regular, we will talk about what’s happening and how we can fix it.

  • I will go beyond the physical part of training and dig into the mental part of training. The mental component of running is a large part of the process, so it’s important that we discuss how that impacts your workouts and races.

  • I will push you to get uncomfortable, so get comfortable with being uncomfortable. Goals are never achieved by staying in our comfort zones, so expect to do workouts that are new, different, and challenging.


  • 10 full marathons, with a PR of 3:44:04

  • Over 40 half marathons, with a PR of 1:42:40

  • 3rd place in age group at Nebraska State Fair Half Marathon (2016) and 3rd place in age group at Mississippi Coast Half Marathon (2017)

  • Served as a pacer for 3 local races - Navy-Air Force Half Marathon (2018), Cherry Blossom 10 Miler (2019), National Women’s Half Marathon (2019)

  • Countless other distances and out-of-the-box races from 5k to 10 milers to Ragnar Relays to the Goofy Challenge in Disney (a half marathon and full marathon in the same weekend)

  • Running a half or full marathon in all 50 states, with 27 states already completed
