Do I have to live in DC to train with you?
Nope! Online coaching is done virtually, so you can live anywhere in the world to be coached.
I'm not training [or planning to train] for a race. Can I still be coached?
Yep! If you’re in the DC area and looking for in-person coaching, the TW Track Practices are your best bet if you’re not training for a longer race. They are held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 3 different locations. More info on those here. If you want something more individualized to hit your goals or can’t make it to the track practices, online coaching is your best option.
I'm not a fast runner. Will this be a good fit?
Yep! Coaching is for ALL levels of runners. The Group Training Program is largely runners who are new to long distance racing and/or consider themselves mid-to-back of the pack runners. The workouts are differentiated to meet everyone’s fitness level and goals. It is a welcoming group and we all support each other, regardless of pace. Online coaching is all individualized and done on one’s own time, so paces are a non-issue.
I'm traveling during the summer and will miss some of the practices. Is that okay?
Yep! It's common for people to travel in the summer, and it's okay to miss some practices, even if it's at the beginning of the session. You'll have your training plan and get weekly emails to keep you on track with what you're missing.
I just found out about the program and missed the first couple of weeks. Can I still join?
Yep! You'll receive a welcome email, your training plan & all the other materials, and be able to jump right in with the group after you sign up.
I don’t need 22 weeks to train for my goal race. Why can’t I prorate the summer session of the Group Training Program?
If you have an early fall race, such as the Chicago Marathon or Army 10 Miler, you’ll likely want to come back to run some easy miles with the group after a short break - this has been a common occurrence in the previous training sessions. If you have a late fall race, such as the Richmond Marathon or Half Marathon, you’ll greatly benefit from building a strong base of miles before you “officially” start training. While your training plan will be aimed at your goal race, it will include the base building before training and/or the recovery after a race to encompass more than just the 16-20 weeks of “official” training - both important factors for strong running. Additionally, joining the program at a later date adds additional work for coaches, which factors into not prorating the cost.
How does payment work?
Online coaching is paid for on a monthly basis through PayPal. The Group Training Program can be paid for in full or broken into several payments. Customized training plans are paid in full after the consultation and prior to receiving the plan. The cost of TW Track Practices are paid in-full when you sign up.
Why do you require a 3 month minimum for online coaching?
Becoming a faster, stronger, and smarter athlete does not happen overnight, as there is no silver bullet to becoming a better runner. Working with me for at least 3 months will help you build your training in an effective manner to lessen the chance of injury and increase your speed, strength, and running knowledge base. If you become injured while training, I will work with you through that to help you maintain a base level of fitness while rehabbing.
Do you meet for one-on-one sessions?
No, this is not a service I am currently offering.
When do I start?
It depends on the program! Online coaching begins on an agreed upon date in the consultation call. The group program has two sessions/year. In 2019, the winter/spring session is January 7th - May 21st, and the summer/fall session is June 17th - November 16th. While registration is rolling, it’s recommended you start training at least 4 months before your race date.
